I have a 1975 MG that starts to sputter at 3000rpm?

and gets worse as the engine heats up.I have replaced cap and rotor plugs and wires,fuel filter and just changed the oil.I talked to a mechanic and he thought maybe it was the fuel pump.Any thought would greatly be appreciated.Thanks
